Process-Oriented Coaching: The Power of Nonverbal Cues

Lecturer: Peter Ammann, Dipl.-Psych., Master Certified Coach (ICF)

An event organized by the ICF Germany Chapter

Thu, 6 March 2025, 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM (online)

In this seminar, you will receive an introduction to Process-Oriented Coaching, with a focus on amplifying clients’ nonverbal and paraverbal signals.
The unique method of Process-Oriented Psychology, developed by Arnold Mindell, expands the conventional approach to nonverbal communication.
By unfolding these unintentionally sent signals, hidden potentials and new perspectives can come to light.
In this seminar, you will learn how to sharpen your perception of such signals within the coaching process and how to use them purposefully.

Value for you as a participant:

  • Sharpen your awareness of subtle signals across different sensory channels.
  • Learn to communicate your feedback in the specific language of each signal
  • Deepen your competence in the ICF core competency “Active Listening.”

Amplification in Coaching: Unlocking the Power of Nonverbal Signals

Lecturer: Peter Ammann, Dipl.-Psych., Master Certified Coach (ICF)

Closed seminar of Hult Ashridge Executive Education Ashridge House, Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire HP4 1NS, United Kingdom

Monday, 2nd June 2025, 10:00 am until 12:30 pm, optional practical application and exchange from 2:30 to 4:30 pm

Move beyond common interpretations of subtle and nonverbal cues—discover a professional method for exploring and utilizing these signals in coaching. This advanced seminar introduces Arnold Mindell’s “Amplification” technique, a process-oriented approach that systematically unfolds the potential of unconscious, especially incongruent nonverbal messages. Such signals can often cause irritation or even conflict if left unaddressed. With Amplification, you will learn to safely and effectively bring these hidden dynamics to light, transforming them into valuable resources for your clients. Enhance your coaching presence and turn the unspoken into a catalyst for growth and meaningful change.

Learning Objectives for Process-Oriented Coaching with Amplification

  1. Introduction to Amplification Techniques
Gain an initial understanding of how Mindell’s Amplification method can be used to notice and begin to explore nonverbal signals, such as subtle gestures or incongruent cues, within coaching conversations.
  2. Experience Sensory-Based Tools
Become familiar with practical, sensory-focused approaches that support deeper active listening and help recognize unconscious, unintended signals in coaching situations.
  3. Explore Transformative Presence
Learn about attitudes and practices—such as openness and nonjudgment—that foster psychological safety and encourage clients to engage with emerging, nonverbal dynamics.
  4. Recognize Signal Patterns & Psychodynamics
Begin to identify patterns in nonverbal signals and understand their possible connections to unconscious processes (e.g., transference, parallel processes), while appreciating the complexity and ambiguity involved.
  5. Connect Method with Practice
Discover ways to integrate Amplification concepts into your existing coaching approach and reflect on how to further explore and develop these skills in your ongoing professional practice.
